Long Range Ultrasonic Testing

Long Range Ultrasonic Testing (LRUT)

LRUT, also known as Guided Wave Ultrasonic Testing (GWUT), is an advanced NDT technique designed to rapidly screen a large volume of material from a single test point. This innovative method utilizes transducer rings placed around a pipe to generate low-frequency guided waves that propagate symmetrically along the pipe axis. This allows for the inspection of entire pipelines, providing 100% coverage of the pipe wall and detecting critical issues from a single access point.

The LRUT Advantage for Your Operations

Unlike conventional ultrasonic methods, LRUT does not require a liquid couplant and is exceptionally fast. This makes it an invaluable tool for conducting pipeline surveys for corrosion and other damage mechanisms, particularly in challenging environments.

  • Efficiency: Drastically reduce inspection time by screening long sections of pipe quickly minimizing operational downtime.
  • Accessibility: LRUT is perfect for inspecting hard-to-reach areas that are inaccessible to other methods, such as pipes buried in soil, encased in sleeves, or positioned at high elevations.
  • Comprehensive Coverage: The guided waves provide complete coverage, ensuring no defect
is overlooked. They are reflected back to the transducer whenever they encounter a change
in wall thickness, which allows us to detect and locate corrosion, metal loss, and discontinuities with precision.

By using LRUT, we empower you to proactively manage the integrity of your pipeline assets, helping you mitigate risk and ensure long-term safety and operational efficiency with minimal disruption.
